What is a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR)?

Air purifying respirator is a positive pressure respirator that uses a blower to force the ambient air through a filter to a hood or mask. A typical system includes a blower unit, filter/cartridge, battery, loose-fitting hood, and breathing tube. The HEPA filter is a high efficiency filter that captures 99.99% of particulates with a mass mean of 0.3-micron.

  • Unrestrictive breathing; not taxing to the lungs during physical activity
  • Light weight and comfortable
  • Eye, face and respiratory protection in one system
  • Large viewing window; maximum viewing for wearer and calming for patients
  • No fit test

How long can I use a CC20 hood?

Bullard CC20 Series respirators have a limited service life. Therefore, a regular inspection and replacement program must be conducted. Bullard CC20 Series respirators and all component parts and assemblies should be inspected for damage or excessive wear before and after each use to ensure proper function. Immediately remove the respirator from service and replace parts or assemblies that show any sign of failure or excessive wear that might reduce the degree of protection originally provided.

Inspect the hood material for rips, tears, or damage from excessive wear that might reduce the degree of protection originally provided. The respirator’s plastic lens should be inspected for cracks, scratches or any other signs of damage. If damage is detected, remove the hood from service and discard immediately.
